Identifying the knowledge and skills articulated in the standards is a good first step toward creating shared expectations for learning. But in order to create consistency in a standards-based grading system, teachers who teach the same standards must also share the same expectations about what skills and knowledge students must learn. Shared understanding minimizes chances of unfair or inaccurate grading.
